How much involvement has MPW had in the “Choose Green” renewable energy program?
MPW has offered voluntary renewable energy programs for well over 10 years, starting with our Green Muscatine program. That program was updated in 2019, which today, after achieving Green-e® certification, is known as “Choose Green Muscatine”.
MPW has encouraged customer signups by showcasing the benefits of these program and the renewable energy impact. However, residential interest has been very limited (less than 1%). Since 2019 when the original Green Muscatine participants transitioned to the new program, additional signups have been minimal, even with MPW and local interest groups’ customer education efforts.

Over the last couple of years, however, several large businesses have expressed interest in the program to meet their corporate renewable energy goals. This interest has pushed the program to essentially be fully subscribed. Large businesses are signaling a desire for more sustainable energy and MPW will be rolling out a new program to help meet that desire. That being said, strong reliability and low rates continue to be very important priorities for nearly all customers. MPW’s balanced transition plan significantly grows our renewable energy footprint, while still balancing customer priorities of reliability and affordability.
