About Us
Founded over a century ago, MPW serves the Muscatine and Fruitland area with internet, TV, phone, water, and electric services.
OVER 100 YEARS, VOTED BY LOCAL CITIZENS
Established by vote of local citizens
Founded over a century ago as the local municipal water utility, today Muscatine Power and Water provides water, electric and communications services to Muscatine and surrounding areas. Each utility was established by a vote of local citizens; Water in 1900, Electric in 1922, and Communications in 1997. Today, MPW is the full service utility provider to hundreds of local businesses and thousands of residents. Operating as a locally controlled, not-for-profit entity allows MPW to focus on doing what is best for the community, keeping services reliable, delivering those services with outstanding customer service, and at rates lower than state and national averages.
A SHORT DRIVE FROM THE QCA AND IOWA CITY
Perfectly located in the beautiful Mississippi River town of Muscatine
Located on the beautiful Mississippi River, Muscatine is situated 30 minutes from the Quad Cities and 45 minutes from Iowa City, giving our residents and workforce the small town charm with the convenience of being close to larger urban areas.
FOCUSED ON PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
Supporting growth in Muscatine
To support the growth and prosperity of the Muscatine area, the Utility must be technically competent and financially capable to take advantage of new technologies in the production and distribution of utility services. Anticipating consumer’s needs, market trends and changing technology keeps MPW focused on preparing for the future – giving our industrial and commercial customers a competitive edge in today’s market and helping area residents pay less for their utility services than surrounding communities and state and national averages.
DELIVERING SERVICES THAT IMPROVE COMMUNITY LIFE
Enhancing the City at no charge
In addition to the benefit citizens receive due to MPW’s lower rates, the Utility directly provides services to the City of Muscatine that would otherwise be paid by taxes. Some of those include electricity and water to City buildings, parks, and recreation areas at no charge; operation, maintenance, and installation of streetlights and signals; and hydrant maintenance for fire protection.
