“MPW is committed to supporting other public power communities in their times of need,” said MPW General Manager, Gage Huston. “While we are proud of our crews for their hard work and honored to receive these commendations from APPA, we’ve been the recipient of mutual aid ourselves and appreciate the need for extra resources when recovery is beyond the scope of what local crews can handle. Dedication to public service is precisely what APPA communities are all about, and restoring power to customers is what drives Electric lineworkers like ours who volunteered to help.”

Within hours of local officials assessing the damage and requesting mutual aid through APPA, MPW lineworkers began gathering materials and loading three vehicles for the trek to Florida. Initially assigned to Winter Park, the MPW team later shifted its efforts to New Smyrna Beach, assisting the local utilities in both communities to restore power to residents affected by the hurricane.
The commendations from APPA recognize MPW’s direct service to these two communities and its commitment to helping fellow utilities recover from natural disasters.
APPA’s Mutual Aid Network, which coordinates with local authorities and members, enables and empowers municipal utilities to support each other during widespread power outages and other emergencies, ensuring power is restored quickly to families and businesses located in affected communities.
