MPW Reaches Settlement Related to January 2024 Cyber Incident 

Muscatine Power and Water (MPW) announced that a settlement has been reached related to the January 2024 cyber incident. Most importantly for customers, MPW emphasizes that it is not aware of any reported identity theft or confirmed misuse of customer personal information resulting from the incident.

Eligible customers will receive a settlement postcard in the coming weeks with instructions, deadlines, and contact information for the settlement process.

The settlement helps bring closure to the related legal matter and allows MPW to move forward with its continued focus on serving customers, maintaining system reliability, and protecting customer information.

To support customers and provide peace of mind, MPW offered credit monitoring and identity theft protection services at no cost to current and former customers through national partners TransUnion and CyberScout. MPW is not aware of any reported identity theft or confirmed misuse of customer personal information related to this incident.

MPW carries cyber insurance, which is expected to help cover the settlement costs. MPW does not expect this settlement to impact customer rates. Any unclaimed settlement funds will be donated to Community Action of Eastern Iowa to help local MPW customers who need help paying utility bills.
