Fix Leaks

A dripping faucet can waste over 3,000 gallons a year. Don’t forget outdoor hoses, connectors, and faucets!

Reuse Your Glass

Designate one glass for your drinking water each day, or refill a water bottle—cutting down on the number of glasses to wash.

Washing Dishes

When washing dishes by hand, don’t let the water run. Fill one basin with wash water and the other with rinse water.

  • Soak pots and pans instead of running water to scrape them.
  • Use the garbage disposal less; compost food scraps instead.
  • Wash produce in a bowl, not under running water.
  • Defrost food in the refrigerator, not under the faucet.
  • Put dropped ice cubes in houseplants.
  • Reuse produce‑rinsing water for plants.
  • Match laundry water levels to load size.
  • Shorten showers (1-2 minutes) to save up to 150 gallons a month.
  • Keep showers under five minutes to save up to 1,000 gallons a month.
  • Check toilets yearly for silent leaks.
  • Plug the tub before turning on the water.
  • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.
  • Fill the sink to rinse razors instead of running water.
  • Collect cold water while waiting for hot and use it on plants.
  • Teach kids to turn faucets off tightly.
  • Reuse towels.
  • Only run washers and dishwashers when full.
  • Sweep outdoor areas instead of using a hose.
