Purchasing a new energy-efficient model could significantly cut your cooling costs. Look for SEER or EER ratings when shopping for your next air conditioner. Air conditioner efficiency is rated by the Season Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) for central air conditioners or the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) for room air conditioners.
Quick tip - A higher SEER OR EER rating indicates a more efficient unit.

Geothermal heat pumps (GHPs) are among the most efficient and comfortable heating and cooling technologies currently available because they use the earth's natural heat to provide heating, cooling, and often, water heating.
Energy STAR certified geothermal heat pumps are over 45% more energy-efficient than standard options and now include water-to-water GHP options. Water-to-water GHPs provide space conditioning and/or domestic water heating using indoor refrigerant-to-water heat exchangers.
Air-source heat pumps have been used for many years in nearly all parts of the United States, but until recently they have not been used in areas that experienced extended periods of subfreezing temperatures (like Iowa often has!). Don't forget to recycle your fluorescent bulbs/lamps - it's the law
For decades, fluorescent lamps containing mercury have ended up in our wells, rivers, streams, lakes, and food chain. The EPA has ruled companies are responsible for recycling fluorescent lamps and other products containing mercury. Businesses are required by Iowa law to treat fluorescent bulbs as hazardous waste. Even if your fluorescent tubes have green end caps or are low-mercury, they still contain mercury and must be recycled. Call the Muscatine Transfer Station at 263-9698 for more details on how your business can recycle.
